About Jane Straight
We all have our stories and this is a little bit of mine.
“Those who contemplate
the beauty of the earth
find reserves of strength that
will endure as long as life lasts.”
~ Rachel Carson
This quote is one that I personally resonate with. I know I am ultimately ok as long as I can see, smell, hear, and feel nature around me.
For some cosmic reason I have been guided to research and seek a number of rare, medicinal plants and I rejoice in the work. Some of these species I helped collect in Central and South America between 1986 & 1987. That was a wild family adventure that I share much more of in the book. Some of our collections ended up in prestigious repositories, while other rare species were propagated and distributed through our mail order business as a conscious act of preservation.
Throughout the years I was blessed with outstanding opportunities to study with some of the world’s most respected herbalists and healers. Their teachings helped revision my worldview, thus setting me on a lifelong path of involvement in plant healing.
I find the spiritual rewards of gardening and plant worship great, providing infinite examples of the awe-inspiring magic, beauty, and power of Nature. During late night walks the tallest trees still beckon me to visit their cathedrals, where majestic moonlit branches and dancing stars create sparkling altars for my prayers. I’ve learned experientially that a strong connection to the Earth provides great solace from the everyday stress we encounter and so often embody.
To this day I remain on the Endangered Species List as a “Flower Child” of the sixties, a role that instilled in me a deep reverence for our Mother Earth and a fierce commitment to protect and preserve her.
